THE METHOD

The GYROTONIC® Method is a mindful practice that involves a variety of exercises that incorporate spiral movements with coordinated breath work. Imagine swimming, Tai Chi, or yoga on a machine. Each fluid movement flows into the next, allowing the joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression. The dynamic movement patterns on specialized equipment stimulates the nervous system, increasing one's range of motion and creating functional strength. The method helps mobilize the spine and release rigidity caused by physical injury, age, stress, and lack of exercise. It requires us to actively learn various movements that we are not accustomed to, allowing us to discover our limitations and abilities so that we can heal. Learning and having an awareness of our body improves our brain's ability to change its structure and function throughout life according to what we do (neuroplasticity). Additionally, the method helps regulate our endocrine system because hormones become more balanced when there is freedom of movement that is supportive. We become more calm and energized and as a result, we crave for more movement and learn to trust our bodies so that we can develop a movement habit. Whether your movement is for rehab, maintenance, or relaxation, the results are a better mind-body connection and a balanced well-being.

The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® was created in 1984 by Juliu Horvath to rehabilitate dancers. The training is used around the world by physical therapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, and hospital rehabilitation.
